Is my 3 month old baby too old for a newborn photo session, by Montreal Family + Baby Photographer, Carolina Hanna

September 15, 2022

Life with a newborn is hectic and often, time passes us by so quickly, it feels like we just barely blinked.  Then you suddenly realize the importance of having your new baby photographed and wish you would’ve book a photographer.

You’re worried you’ll forget those tiny fingers, and the way she loves to sleep on your chest.  The flakey skin and the little bubbles she blows, unknowingly.

You call around and realize that a lot of Montreal Newborn Photographers are very strict about photographing your baby within those first 10 days post-birth.  You wonder if you’ve missed the boat.  Panic ensues.

Enter lifestyle family photography, the type of photography that is about telling your family story, in your home, in a unique and beautiful way.

In-home storytelling photography offer room for so much flexibility, and that means that it’s never too late for your baby’s first photoshoot.

Last year, when Covid hit, so many newborn photo shoots got postponed, and weeks quickly turned into months.  By the time I got back to photographing my missed sessions, some of my newborn babies were over 3 months old.  Some parents worried they had missed the opportunity but the truth is, now is the perfect time, whether your baby is 7 days old or 9 months old, it doesn’t really matter.

Your family photo shoot is really just about your family story, wherever you happen to be in that story.  And since we’re not trying to get your sleeping baby into a flower-filled bowl, or propped up on their hands, it doesn’t really matter how old baby is.

The sweet baby in the shoot below was just about 3 months old at his photoshoot.  He smiled, and slept and was loved and cuddled by his family throughout his shoot.

If you’re thinking about a photoshoot for your baby, get in touch with me to chat about what you’re hoping for.

I photograph families, newborns and pregnant mamas in and around Montreal. I will travel to you for your photo session, or we can meet at my Montreal Studio. My aim is for every photo session to be unique to your family and to beautifully tell your story, so you can hold onto it forever.
