Ultimate Guide to Your Montreal In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session with Carolina Hanna Photography

SESSION GUIDE

Have questions about having your newborn photo shoot at home?

I know how unnerving having a photographer come to your home is, especially when you just had a baby…

That’s why I want to put your mind at ease and walk you through what you can expect during your in-home lifestyle newborn session with me!

I’ll be your guide, sharing all the information you need to know about newborn photo shoots. From the moment we step into your home to the final delivery of your beautiful images, I’ll be there every step of the way.

1

There’s no reason to stress

Your In-Home Newborn Photo Shoot Will Be Totally Relaxed

In the world of lifestyle photography, it’s all about embracing the real-life moments with your new baby. That’s why there are no expectations when it comes to our sessions. You don’t have to worry about your baby being sound asleep or trying to make them “cooperate” in a specific way. Instead, we’ll simply follow your baby’s lead, ensuring their happiness and security while you have the opportunity to sit back and fully cherish your new little love.

I understand that life with a newborn can often be far from relaxing. However, your session with me will be a calming and peaceful experience. It will provide you with a precious moment to truly soak in the beauty of this special time in your life.

Of course babies cry, and if they are unhappy, hungry, cold or anything else, we can stop at anytime to make sure your baby is happy.

  • Baby doesn’t need to be sleeping
  • We can stop anytime for feeding, changing, etc.
  • Just relax and cuddle your baby!

You don’t need a “Pinterest-Worthy” home

You wouldn’t know it looking through the images on this website, but I get asked SO OFTEN about what happens when “our home doesn’t look like it came out of a magazine”. I can tell you with 100% certainty that it doesn’t matter! Your newborn photographs are all about capturing the love and joy within your family, not about the appearance of your home.

When I arrive at your place, I’ll take a quick peek around to find the best light available. All I really need is a window and your loving family to work some true magic. I’ve done entire photo shoots in the tiniest of spaces, so trust me when I say that your home is absolutely perfect just the way it is.

During our session, I love getting some cozy shots on your bed. And if your baby’s nursery is ready, we can also capture the pride and effort you’ve put into decorating their very first room. But hey, if those areas don’t work for any reason, no worries at all! We’ll simply find another spot that fits us perfectly. And if all you have is one window, we can do a full shoot in that space.

Remember, this session is all about the warmth and connection within your family, not about achieving perfection. So let’s relax, and enjoy the precious moments as they unfold naturally. Together, we’ll create the most adorable newborn photographs that truly capture the love and happiness in your family.

  • The photos are about your family not your home
  • All we need is a window
  • Your entire shoot can be done in one room

What to wear for your in-home newborn session

Planning outfits doesn’t need to be stressful. The goal of in-home photo shoots is to keep things really simple, cozy and relaxed. This also goes for your outfits.

Once your session with me is confirmed, you can expect an email with a link to the Welcome Guide – this is a planning guide that will tell you everything you need to know about choosing an outfit and what works or doesn’t work well for photos.

As for your newborn baby, I offer a selection of adorable baby clothes that you can use for your session. For newborns, I recommend getting newborn size clothing – I know how impractical that is for you to buy and probably never use again, that’s why I offer the option of using my outfits and blankets. The pieces in my collection are classic, neutral, and timeless and are washed with Ivory Snow after every use.

If you’d rather get your own baby outfit, I’ll give you some shop ideas and guidance about what works best!

Overall, my goal is for you to be comfortable in whatever you chose to wear. You can see more tips about choosing an outfit by clicking here to view my blog post all about what to wear for your newborn session.

  • I can provide newborn baby outfits
  • You’ll get access to my Welcome Guide that helps you pick outfits and prepare for your session
  • Keep it comfortable, you don’t need anything fancy

Here are a few of the pieces available for you to use for your newborn session. If there’s a specific piece you like, I’ll bring it, otherwise I’ll arrive with a selection of outfits that you can choose from.

All outfits and blankets are neutral and classic.

How long does an in-home newborn session take?

You should expect about 90 minutes for your newborn session. If you have toddlers at home too, then plan for about 2 hours.

My work is all about capturing the love between families. I am not aiming to get your baby into any overly posed positions. If you’re looking for that type of photography, I am probably not the best fit for you.

Your session is going to be really laid back. I allow the baby to lead. If baby is sound asleep, that will allow me to do a little posing, positioning the baby in your arms or on your shoulder. If baby is wide away, that’s fine too. As long as baby is happy, we can create beautiful images together. If baby is unhappy, we can stop at anytime to feed, change, soothe or whatever else your little one needs. Their comfort is always first priority.

This photo session is all about capturing those genuine, heartfelt moments that reflect the love and joy within your family. So, let’s keep it natural, authentic, and stress-free.

  • Newborn sessions last about 90 minutes
  • Plan a little longer if you have toddlers at home too!
  • I will stay until I have a beautiful set of images for you, I won’t be timing the session
